Southern Utah Down Syndrome Association

When Was the SUDSA organized?

The organization of the SUDSA was initiated in July of 2009 and ratified in
 September of 2009 by
James McFaddenDeAnn Hansen, Sherri Dial, Sadie Pulsipher
Barb Christley, Greg Gifford, Jana Homer, *Jason James, Kenzee Andersen, and
 Michelle Graves
who all currently serve on the Board of Directors.

Current Board Members are
James McFadden, President ~ Barb Christley,
Vice President ~
Sadie Pulsipher, Treasurer ~ Alicia Poore, Secretary ~ Michelle Graves,
Board Member ~
Sherri Dial, Board Member ~ Paul Forcier, Board Member.

Why Was the SUDSA organized?

After almost a full year of no activities or state level support, several parents
here in Southern Utah who wanted to see activities reestablished for our many
families initiated the formation of Southern Utah's very own Association.
This decision was unanimously made and ultimately determined in part because of two factors.

#1) Southern Utah is a rapidly growing area that deserves a more focused, local-level,
hands on approach.

#2) We felt that our distance from Salt Lake was going to make it too difficult to
continually meet all of the requirements necessary
to maintain a state run County Chapter.

Is anyone paid to run the SUDSA?

No, there are no paid board members and our bylaws prohibit this practice.
We believe that the money we raise needs to be used to further
the opportunities for those that were born with Down syndrome.
Serving on the Board of Directors for the SUDSA is strictly on a voluntary bases.

Can I participate in the efforts of the SUDSA?

Absolutely! We have some very wonderful goals to accomplish and a
solid desire to improve our community and there is no way we can't do it all alone.
Anyone can be a part of our board meetings (posted on our calendar of events),
and we encourage you to come out and attend them!
We have several openings for committee leaders and supporting members.

What are some of the goals of the SUDSA?

Besides getting some of the great activities that we have come
to enjoy and love back on track, it is our hope and desire to see Southern Utah
establish its very own facility where parents can get together
and participate in the continuing education of our kids.
There are some great programs and concepts available to us
that are making a significant difference in the lives of those
born with Down syndrome and we want everyone to have an opportunity
to participate in them. We also want this facility to
be used for our "Teen" and "Adult" group activities,
Educational seminars and heartwarming social events as
well as new parent support groups and
 medical provider education programs.

Is the SUDSA a non-profit organization?

Yes, we are a non-profit 501(c)(3). Additionally, we are also a
licensed Charity in the State of Utah and hold a current
solicitation license. For more information you can go to the
Utah Division of Consumer Protections
 website at http://www.consumerprotection.utah.gov/
