Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry and The Weeknd are the leading nominees for the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. The network announced yesterday Lamar earned eight nods, while Perry and The Weeknd scored five nominations each for the August 27th event. Both Lamar and The Weeknd will vie for Video of the Year and Artist of the Year, while Perry’s “Chained to the Rhythm” clip is up for Best Pop.
Bruno Mars is set to compete in the top two categories at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards. The network announced yesterday Mars’ “24K Magic” and four other videos will vie for the top prize, Video of the Year, while Mars himself is one of six artists nominated in the highly coveted Artist of the Year category. Mars’ competition for Artist of the Year includes Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and Lorde. The MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Los Angeles on August 27th at 8:00 Eastern.
It is the men versus the women in the race to win the 2017 MTV Video Music Award for Best Pop video. Nominees on the men’s side include Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times,” and Shawn Mendes’ “Treat You Better.” On the women’s side, the nominees include Katy Perry’s “Chained To the Rhythm,” Miley Cyrus’ “Malibu,” and Fifth Harmony’s “Down” featuring Gucci Mane. The winner will be announced August 27th on MTV.
